How Gratitude Over Little Things In Your Life Can Make You Live Longer

I know you’re thinking about the title of this article, “How Gratitude Over Little Things Can Make You Live Longer”, and you’re wondering what it’s all about. Don’t worry; just read on.Briefly, I want to share something very important with you. You see, there are many things that make this life more beautiful to enjoy challenges not withstanding. It’s one of these things I want to share with you.

What is it?

It is simply refusing to get carried away by the thought of life challenges. In other words, it is maintaining the attitude of gratitude for the things we have; it is maintaining the attitude of happiness and gratefulness for the things that are working in our lives instead of focusing on the ones that are not working.

Do you agree with me that there are many things in your life you should be happy for? I tell you that hardly can everything be going wrong in your life at the same time. We can try this out now. Mention 1 or 2 things you think are not working in your life at the moment, then I will point to you 1001 things that are working in your life which should make you to be happy.

See, you can’t get the best from life; I mean you cannot enjoy the joy of the moment if your focus is only on the things that are not working presently. No matter the challenges or pains you are currently facing, remove focus from them; rather than getting worried over the painful issues in your life, focus on the many other good things you have.

I tell you that, that issue is not as big as you are taking it? Yes, it’s not. No matter how hard or big that condition seems, it is not as hard as you think. Yes, it’s not. The problem is, you’re focusing too much on it. That is why you don’t see the other things in your life for which you should be happy and grateful.

When you focus too much on what is not working well (family problems, childlessness, sickness, business setbacks, exam failures, broken or unstable relationship, etc.), you magnify it and it becomes so great that it shades your eyes from seeing the other good things (the good health, well-paying job, etc.) in your life.

Let me reveal this truth to you. There are many people out there who are wishing to be in your position. When they compare their own life condition with yours, they see you as one who has a less or even no problem. They are secretly praying to have what you are enjoying which you have taken for granted because you are thinking life is beating too hard on you.

Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the Founder of Mountain of Fire Ministry, once made a remarkable statement worth meditating on. He said, When you’re in a trouble and you allow yourself to be troubled inside, then your trouble becomes double.” Please, read that again.

In this regard, he went on to share the following story which I implore you to carefully read.

“There was this young man who was to commit suicide because he felt his trouble has become unbearable. He went to a particular tall building; climbed to the top and wanted to jump down to take his life. As he was preparing to jump, someone was below watching him. Just before he would jump, this person called out to him and asked, ‘You want to kill yourself?’ He answered, ‘Yes.’ He then said, ‘Just before you do so, please let me have your wristwatch; let me have your belt and let me have your pair of shoes. Because since I was born, I never had those things.’ When the man who wanted to commit suicide heard this, he changed his mind. He realized that there are people going through problems that are worse than his own.”

“…because since I was born, I never had those things.” This is were the title of this article came from. Is it not heart-touching?

Believing that you have carefully read the above story, let me now ask you this? If this man had considered this truth beforehand; the truth that his problem was not as big as he thought, and that there were many who wished they were in his position, do you think he would have taken that suicidal decision? Of course not. But thank God there was someone sent to save him, or else, he would have died and gone to suffer greater pains in hell.

Friend, are you thinking like this man? Do you feel you are living a meaningless life and don’t even fit to live? If your answer is yes, I’m telling you that you should not. No matter the present pain or challenge (in business, health, relationship/marriage, academics, etc), refused to be troubled in your heart because sitting down on the chair of sadness, depression, worry and fear will double the problem. I mean, it will make it worse and can move you to take wrong decision that will land you in a state of perpetual regret like the man in the above story (had it been he was not saved).

See, you’re special; there are many things about you that make you unique. There are many things you have others are wishing they had. Focus on these positive things you have. When you do this, you will focus on developing your potential; you will get more from life and ultimately fulfill your Godgiven purpose on earth.
